2012 marks the 50th
Anniversary of Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, Indiana's first
national park. In honor of this historic event, the National Park Service has a
full calendar of celebratory events in Lincoln City, Indiana.
Featured events include: Appearance by Robert
Bray, author of Reading with
Lincoln, during Lincoln Day on February 19; the 50th Anniversary
Celebration: 1962 Days, held July 7-10, will feature a variety of
family-friendly events including a classic car show, live music from the
sixties and more; a conference featuring National Memorials within the National
Parks System will be held in October.
Abraham Lincoln spent 14 formative years in
Indiana where he grew from a boy into a young man, and eventually one of our
nation's greatest presidents. His Indiana home is where he was introduced to
the power of books and the concepts of freedom, justice, hard work and the law.
